This is an open-source hiking app built for UK hikers. It allows the planning, saving, loading and downloading of routes through a modern interface without the clutter.

Through open map data and a custom-made routing engine, Crest generates routes between your start and end points. The routing engine favours safer, and greener paths by default, and a filter allows the user to change what type of paths they prefer.

Yes, I built this app to make hiking more accessible, so the entire app is free. There are no paywalls, subscriptions or anything similar.

Not at the moment unfortunately, as I don't have the processing power needed to process paths across the Entire UK. The app works only in the county of Cumbria, however UK-wide support is planned for 2027.

As the project is still relatively new, there is a vast roadmap planned for the development of Crest. Some of these include a mobile app, offline support, improved elevation data for routes and a filter for easy, medium and hard difficulty routes.
